"Blair Witch" was hilarious to me during the first half, especially when the girl was making fun of the one guy's chest hair and the part when the same guy had thrown away the map!!! That was some funny stuff!! I was the only one laughing out loud in the theater! After the "scary" stuff started happening, I knew it was all fake (My sister went on about how it was real footage and based on a true story, yadda, yadda). We argued at the end of it whether or not it was real so I sat through the credits and waited for the "Everything was fake and any similarities with actual persons is purely coincidence" disclaimer to prove it to her.
Having said that, the one movie that left me scared to death was "Prince of Darkness"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093777/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Darkness_(film)
This movie makes it EXTREMELY difficult to ever look into a mirror again!!! I am OK now, but I haven't watched this movie in YEARS...
Honorable mentions are the scenes in "The Sixth Sense" when the boy runs into his little "tent" and turns around to find himself face-to-face with a dead girl, plus the scene where his mom leaves him in the kitchen for a few seconds only to return to find all the cabinet doors open and his sweaty palm prints as he leaves the table (evidence that he wasn't the one who opened all the cabinet doors)!
The movie ended on a positive note, though, and it was evident that Bruce Willis's character was a ghost before it was revealed in the movie, so by the end of the movie, the scary factor was diminished.

Scariest Movie you have ever seen?
by Layla33 ini know as exjws, probably for the most, there was a secret freedom in watching horror films without thinking you would have a demon as a bed buddy.. i am not very fond of every horror movie, but i will watch those that have an intelligent side to it and is not gore for the sake of gore.
like "the ring" got me going when i first watched it, just like "the blair witch project" did, which is more about suspense.
anyway, i never saw any of the saw movies, so i am going to try to watch saw iii tonight, since it is on showtime.

Did you ever buy from Ebay?
by JH inwhat would you love to find on ebay, that you can't find anywhere?.
-
The Last Nephilim
Plenty. Watch out for scammers if you sell! If you are sent an email that looks "official" that asks you to ship the item overseas and then your money will be transferred to your PayPal account- DON'T DO IT!!! Especially if the buyer wants you to ship it to Nigeria! They are bad about scamming over there! Bidding does go crazy at the end of an auction, especially the last 15- 30 seconds! And yes, some sellers can have a friend across town set a high bid and if no one bids higher, then all you have to do is pretend that your friend paid and you shipped the item, and then he sands you some very nice feedback which makes your seller rating look even better even though no transaction took place! This works for a while, but becomes increasingly difficult because even if your buddy changes his username on eBay, it still know that it's the same person. It starts looking awfully suspicious if your buddy is the only one buying stuff from you, unless you sell something like golf balls or blank CDs.

Do you believe the FDS is God's spirit directed organization???
by cognac inummm, hi, no!!!.
how do you get around that question without lying???
i want to get some people out of this org while i'm still in but don't want to lie either....
-
The Last Nephilim
Since the FDS is not what the organization says it is, then my answer to that question would be, "I believe the FDS is spirit directed." Notice I left out the part about the "organization"? I would NOT say, "I believe the FDS is God's spirit directed organization". That would be false. Of course, the elders are skilled at interrogation, and it would soon be clear to them after an hour or so that although you believe that the FDS is spirit directed, you do not believe the GB to be the FDS.
Perhaps a better approach would be that since we are to follow our conscience and we know the FDS to publish false information from time to time (See Awake! 1993 Mar. 22 p.4), then everything they publish, whether doctrine or policy or opinion, must be scrutinized heavily and one's individual Bible- trained conscience must decide what is true and what is false. Though to some extent they may be spirit- directed, they are not infallible and therefore the FDS cannot be blindly trusted without question. These are the things I question and why... (enter your list here). Then when they raise immortal hell about you being an apostate, quote them this excerpt from the Watchtower April 1, 1991 p.17 "Mankind's Search for God" article;
"Thus, every person is encouraged to examine other religions with an open mind. As is stated on page 10: “Understanding one another’s viewpoint can lead to more meaningful communication and conversation between people of different faiths.” It continues: “True, people may strongly disagree about their religious beliefs, but there is no basis for hating a person just because he or she holds a different viewpoint.”
After that, how can they disfellowship anyone for not completely following the organization? You can even throw in these quotes from the 4/1/1920 Watchtower page 101;
"If some did not care to work in harmony with the Society thus constituted, that would be their privilege; yet that would not mean that there should be any ill feeling, nor that such should be disfellowshipped... If others see it in a different way, that is their privilege. There should be full liberty of conscience."
Of course, then the elders will say that that is "old light"... -

Thinking of becoming a Witness again and my reasons for doing so :(
by reniaa ini've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!
i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.
they said to me "be happy you are in reality now and enjoy it" and i thought "well if this is reality i've had enough of it".

The Last Nephilim
Well, I didn't take the time to read all four pages of responses, but let me tell you about my "experience" in the "truth";
1/ I married a girl who was raised in the "truth". She started to sleep around on me after only 3 years of marriage (I didn't know it at the time). Seven years and 6 lovers later, I finally caught on. Even though I was the "innocent" mate and it was supposed to be my decision, she insisted on divorce. She has since married a "worldly" guy and gotten reinstated. My two kids with her have suffered ever since!
2/ When my wife and I began our fade a few months back, all of our so- called "friends" suddenly lost interest in us. No one called. No one came by. We would bump into some in the grocery store or whatnot and they would give us the ole' "We miss you" speech. Yeah- they miss us so much they had to pick up the phone and call, right?? Now we get shunned when we're seen out in public by our so- called "friends"! Proverbs 17:17- "A true companion is loving all the time, and is a brother that is born for when there is distress." Notice it says "ALL the time"? Notice also that it says "when there is distress"? If a person is missing meetings for 3 months, wouldn't that be an indicator of "distress"? Sounds to me like what I have at the Kingdom Hall is false companions, not "true companions"!
3/ You already know that being a JW means that you will be judged by your meeting attendance and field service report. No one, especially the elders, cares whether or not you're good to people, that you share your time and material things with others, that you help those in need, etc... All of that means diddly- squat unless you're turning in at least 10 hours a month and never miss a meeting! Otherwise, you're just "spiritually weak" to them...
Honestly, your story just sounds like you've made some bad, maybe even desperate decisions. I don't mean that to be an insult, because everyone does it at times. You either already knew your boyfriends were selfish alcoholics or they became that way afterwards. In either case, the blame is not on the fact that those guys weren't JWs. I was worldly when my raised in the "truth" first wife married me. Evidently I had a better upbringing and stronger moral character than she did, yet I'm from the world (and, as far as JWs are concerned, back in it)!
If being among false companions is your idea of happiness, then go for it! If having your mind force- fed to believe lies is fulfilling to you, then go for it! I may not agree with your opinions, but I firmly believe in your right to have them! Good Luck! -

Could U Please Cite Some Personal Interesting Observations About The Truth?
by minimus infor anyone that looks at this thread, could you write something either profound or simply interesting so as to make the reader see the truth about "the truth"?

I agree with OTWO!!! In fact, the counsel given by elders is "universal" for any issue you're dealing with. Every time you follow their counsel and things work out or problems go away, they credit Jehovah's blessing as the cause, but if things get worse or don't work out, they credit Satan's persecution. Most people can work out their problems or get used to them so that they don't seem as bad over time. Either way, the elders want you to think that your following their counsel is what really made the situation better. The bottom line- The elders are never wrong!
People who never even look at you while you are faithfully attending meetings suddenly "miss" you when you've been away from the meetings for a time! WTF!??
Conditional friendships...
Oftentimes a scripture that is cited in WT articles actually have nothing to do with the subject of the article or even paragraph where it is cited. To "understand" it, the reader must either have a working knowledge of JW doctrine or have such a person explain how the cited scripture fits the material. "...He was pierced for our transgressions..." has nothing to do with Jehovah's sovereignty and does not, in any way, explain that Jesus died to uphold it! (WT article "Are You For Jehovah's Sovereignty" a few weeks back).
A VERY high percentage of the men who are placed in positions of responsibility are either; a. related to someone already in such a position; b. wealthy.
There is entirely too much emphasis on meeting attendance and field service, so much that everyone in the bORG is judged by it!
And finally, one of my favorites- Nothing is really that important until the week before the circuit overseer arrives!!!!! -

I'm actually trying to do this, although it's been slow- going. It's a fantasy fiction novel about a fictitious race of humanoid creatures (one in particular) and his experiences in life. Sword battles, betrayal, comedy, tragedy, the whole nine yards...

The Last Nephilim
I was always able to dismiss questions that came up in my mind with the handy- dandy JW mindset that Jehovah will correct things and make adjustments in his own due time. The beginning of the end for me was the Sept. Kingdumb Ministry Question Box. I was appalled at what it was saying. Then I got an account on here and checked out other "apostate" websites. Then I started recalling several years back I purposely missed our Tuesday night meeting to watch the Dateline Special on pedophilia in the bORG. I almost laughed out loud when I remembered my feelings when I watched that- how the media was controlled by Satan and was being biased against the Society! Anyhow, I started watching some vids on YouTube on JW false doctrine and such. Oh, and at the same time I was getting the Sept. KM, I was noticing a great deal of bias within the BOE in my cong. I guess alot of things hit all at once. I think the last straw was when I last talked to the PO. Shortly after he and a few others elected to reinstate my ex- wife, he came to my house to "check on us". He didn't like what I had to say about losing confidence in the elders and the organization. I think it pissed him off for me to say those things in front of the ministerial servant he brought with him. During their visit, he went through his routine of giving counsel from a few selected scriptures, most in the New Testament. Since I had my Kingdom Interlinear on my desk, I used it instead of the regular NWT. He got a puzzled look on his face as if he'd never seen this book before and asked me what it was. After I showed it to him, he had the nerve to ask me what I was doing with it!! I told him I was doing research to answer an "interested person's" question: "Why does Thomas say 'The Lord of me and the God of me' in the original Greek if Jesus is not God". Again, he acted puzzled and told me to let him know what my research turned up. I think he was already thinking apostasy! The visit was as cold and unfeeling as any, and I felt I was being judged the whole time. If that is the bORG's idea of "shepherding", then I don't want to be a part of their organization.
BTW, another couple of elders came by yesterday to "check" on us again, since now I have custody of my son. If they can't get me, I guess they figure on going after my son. Over my dead body!!! -

Do you ever miss it? Ever?
by AK - Jeff infor me - rarely would be the correct word.
i don't miss the indoctrination.
i don't miss the wasted time in service.

The Last Nephilim
I can honestly say no, even for the sole reason that those "friends" are conditional, which, to me, is worthless. I have a friend who has been loyal since before I became a JW and remained so through my indoctrination and subsequent shunning of him, unless it involved a chance to witness to him. That didn't matter to him- he was still my friend even if I wasn't his. THAT's the kind of people I want as friends- not the kind who will drop you like a used tampon the minute you question the WTS!!!!!

Thanks, V. Your vids are truly inspirational.
In case anyone is interested, a guy named Shazoolo on YouTube makes some pretty interesting JW videos, and he appears to have access to a bunch of old WT publications that he proceeds to rip to shreds (figuratively). He even has a few vids where he compares older publications to their "updated" versions to show how the WTS covers up it's false prophecies. Check him out. I get a kick out of his accent, too!
